Storytelling
Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 7:43PM Well now! Today has been one busy Saturday. It has been a different flavor from last Saturday, which consisted of a day-long date between me and statistics, and later that night a stunning display of feminine power (I haven't mentioned yet that last Saturday night we went to a incredible burlesque and variety show!). This Saturday has been busy with domesticity, family, and once again statistics.
Today has show me, in many ways, simple implementation of balance. That is my theme for this month, I've decided. With all of this movement and change balance is of the utmost importance. If I get spinning too fast in one direction I begin to feel dizzied and lost. I am slowly learning the art of balance. Give and take.
This morning was spend in a bit of a sullen gray haze. I believe the weather had a little something to do with it, it was a bleak, dying fall day. Some might even call it the hastening dawn of winter, but I will not-- not quite yet. So, the weather, and the uncertainty of another developing small intimate issue, had me a bit down-ish. Mostly all I wanted to do was hibernate and tend to my soft spots. Instead I had to focus my energies outwardly, and ease into the day.
I put on some music, Bob Dylan (who's voice is always so very comforting to me), and listened to Last Thoughts on Woody Guthriea couple of times, and then to the first disc of the first volume of the Dylan bootlegs. Josh and I set out to clean up the house, as his parents were visiting.
After the house was put into order we showered quickly and went to meet Josh's parents. They took us out to lunch at Ponderosa. I am always a bit unsteady going out to eat, as my diet-style is rather different from the majority of those around me in this Midwestern area. I have learned a few tips and tricks, and my dining experiences usually go fine. Today was just as such. Ponderosa has an adequate salad bar, and I have learned to bring my own vegan dressing, so I had a huge yummy salad with my dressing, a side of chips and salsa, and a plate of honeydew and cantaloupe for dessert.
After lunch Josh's mom and I visited while the boys worked on winterizing our windows. We had a nice conversation and I showed her my pretty mismatched tea set and some of my other fun auction finds. I lit some candles in the living room, turned Dylan on low-- the atmosphere was nice, peaceful and quite. After a little there was a lull in our conversation so I started working on some of my homework, as it was pertinent. Josh's mom rested in the living room with our little fur babies.
I have accomplished a lot of learning in statistics. I am finding my rhythm. The same is true with ethics, although I am having a bit more trouble with our new philosopher, Immanuel Kant. Aristotle and I got along pretty well, I'm nervous about my relationship with Kant.
Tonight, I am taking a break from school work. Josh and I are going out on the town. Charlie Parr (video) and Eastern Blok are performing at one of our local venues and we are going to check it out. I'm very excited about seen Charlie Parr, as he is a singer/songwriter, story teller. A folk artist. And that, my friends, is my highest aspiration to be. I have put on a pretty dress, an amazing floor length sweater (which I fould thrifting yesterday), and done my dreads up nice. I am ready to learn from a master. Tonight will be a sacrament.
Much love! Xoxo. Happy Saturday.
