Gifted

So, I don't know if anyone noticed or not but, if you will note my Twitter, I have been rather downtrodden here lately. My mind has been open to countless injustices in our country/the world. Daily I come to notice more and more how completely and utterly screwed we are. Completely and utterly. Our freedom is slowly dwindling, our love secretly being stifled.
More over I get so damn frustrated with the fact that we all seem so sleepy, so bleary eyed to the way we are truly living, the death we incite every moment of every single day. There are things to change, why the hell aren't we changing them? Hope deferred make the heart sick.
And then, last night, the Universe gifted me with a small token. Perhaps insignificant to most, but to me-- silver, no, gold! I was granted a completely free, pirate, copy of Abbie Hoffman's Steal this Book. I'm not going to go into how this particular paper copy of these amazing words got into my hands, but lets just say, its a pirate copy. None the less I thank the Universe for allowing to to read these words, in this spirit.
I wish Abbie were here today, because he says:

  • The only rehabilitation possible: hatred of oppression.
  • Everything is topsy-turvy. If we internalize the language and imagery of the pigs, we will forever be fucked.
  • Until we understand the nature of institutional violence and how it manipulates values and mores to maintain the power of the few, we will forever be imprisoned in caves of ignorance.
  • A revolution in consciousness is an empty high without a revolution in the distribution of power.

i just want you to know, that it is enough that you care. it is enough that you do something when others don't. and it is enough that you want others to change, and seek bringing enlightment to the minds and hearts of others.

the fact that you embody what you believe is right is powerful, and that is ultimately more inspiring to people than you may think.

you know, without me telling you, that you can't carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. sometimes i think you carry far more than you are actually responsible for.

i love you.

I agree with Maurine that it's enough that you care and that you try to make a difference. But I also understand you, Maggie Ann, that it sometimes feels frustrating to see how no one else seems to give a damn. At work, I'm constantly switching off lights, just a tiny example, to limit useless energy-consumption. And the others don't seem to care much. But I do it, and I plan to keep on doing it.
